Even though Jurgen Klopp’s side won their sixth consecutive game with a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, it was Chelsea who dominated most if the game and created the most chances, attempting 13 shots to Liverpool’s 6.
Lampard's side had several big chances in the closing stages with Mason Mount missing a brilliant chance and Jose Mourinho felt Liverpool’s attackers needed to help grind out the result.
The three attacking players play a lot centralised, and then they don’t defend too much,’ said Mourinho on Sky Sports after the game.
I think during the last 10 to 15 minutes of this game, Mo Salah has to make a bigger effort and has to help a little bit more Alexander-Arnold. And then Alexander-Arnold can play a little bit more on the inside.
So when comes the moment where they need to win ugly, and in this moment they don’t have the potential to get a third goal, they have to defend even better.
Liverpool had a little bit of luck in the closing stage as Chelsea didn't score their couple of chances and they would be blaming themselves, says the former Manchester United manager.
Liverpool continued their 100% record this season with the win at Stamford Bridge, maintaining their five-point lead over champions Manchester City, though Mourinho says it’s not a significant lead at this stage of the campaign.
He continued: You know, a five point lead to Manchester City, I don’t think it is a huge gap. Because Liverpool are obviously going to lose a match, like City lost against Norwich. They will lose a match. They are going to drop a couple of points here and there and City are capable of having a run like Liverpool is having now. So I think this five point gap is not so significant.
‘But we were speaking before the game, it’s better to go in the top of the league, it’s better to look back and see your biggest rival. City today are thinking even a draw is good for them, they go from five to three points, and in the end it’s a big victory for Liverpool.’
